Heaton Mersey Dog Walks

The Common

The Common, situated in between Heaton Mersey and Heaton Moor is a great space for walking your dogs. It has a good mixture of woodland, ponds and open spaces and meadows. There are always plenty of other dogs for your dog to interact and play with.

Heaton Mersey Common is classed as a local nature reserve and is owned by Stockport Council. There is a large recreational space towards the north of the Common.

Mersey Vale Nature Park

Mersey Vale Nature Park

Mersey Vale Nature Park is situated off the River Mersey. It is also accessible from the end of Craig Road, just past the Heaton Mersey Bowl.

There are many different paths and trails within the nature park which allows for walks of all sorts of different lengths and distances. Due to many of the long straight paths it is an ideal walk if you are training your dog off lead and want to see far enough ahead for any distractions.

You can enjoy the wildlife during this walk and there are plenty of spots to stop for a rest or something to eat.

River Mersey

From Heaton Mersey you have the choice of walking your dog towards Stockport Town Center or the opposite way towards Didsbury & Chorlton. This is a great walk in the summer as there are plenty of opportunities for your dog to cool down in the river and several beach like areas for them to play around.
